The Critical Importance of Open Water Safety Training

Living in the Thames Valley, everyone knows that rivers and lakes are go-to destinations for kids to hang out and have fun. But sadly, once the warmer weather arrives the temptation to take a dip in those lakes and rivers is often irresistible. Jumping out of boats, off paddle boards and kayaks is great fun, especially for teens seeking a thrill and as parents, we know all too well that peer pressure can make it hard for kids to say NO. So, gaining an understanding of and a respect for cold, open water is key to keeping them safe.

How can you keep your child safe and give them the information they need to make good decisions?

Wingnut offers kids between the ages of 7 and 18 the ability to participate in training sessions designed to be fun whilst helping them understand the dangers of open water, as well as equipping them with essential life-saving knowledge that everyone should know.

"As a parent, I know all too well the worry surrounding kids and water safety. These sessions are an invaluable experience that could save a life or possibly give a child the knowledge to help someone else in the water."

"I want to share this course with as many kids as possible and I am passionate about educating young people with the knowledge & skills necessary to enjoy open water safely."

Victoria

Sessions last 45 minutes and are designed to be FUN whilst helping kids understand the dangers of open water. Each session is an immersive experience, with practical tips for children and the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, including experiencing the effects of cold water on the body under controlled conditions. Importantly - they learn what to do and crucially what NOT to do if someone falls in.

HEAR IT FROM PAST PARTICIPANTS

  • Vic provided an informative and age-appropriate water safety course to my then 16 year old son and his mates. They were heading off on a lads post GCSE trip to Newquay and it was so reassuring that they knew about the dangers of water before doing so.

    Thank you Vic!

  • Victoria delivered a great course in water safety for my then 16 year old boy and his pals before they went off on their first unaccompanied holiday. It was a condition of them being allowed to go away on their own. Would absolutely recommend her teaching style and knowledge and would urge all parents to ensure their children have basic safety knowledge around water.

  • Thank you for the morning at the lake. It was a great session, the kids learnt invaluable skills in a memorable way.

We are very much looking forward to bringing this year's year 6.
